Sleeping In too Long
This morning, I slept in far too long.
I was supposed to get up at 9 to do some homework, but that just didn't happen. Through a drowsy binge-fest of Apple Keynotes, MKBHD videos, and catching up on podcasts I didn't end up leaving my bed until around 2 in the afternoon.
Usually when this happens, I'm in a sort of perpetual funk for the rest of the day. I don't know about any of you but I often find that if I sleep in for too long (like I did today) then I actually end up feeling worse than I would have if I'd just gotten up in the first place. I feel groggy, light headed, and just sort of gross.

Thankfully, that didn't happen this afternoon. Once I'd gotten up, I freshened up and came downstairs to find my sister having what looked like a lovely salad for lunch. That spawned the idea to make a simple, tasty salad and that inspiration began to get me out of my funk.

I gathered up some ingredients and once I had them there on the counter, (where they were nicely highlighted in natural light from our kitchen window) I decided I'd make a little photo project out of it. This led to a lot of photos of the whole process. Chopped up the lettuce? take some shots. Sliced the apple? take some more. Those all proved to be a bit too granular and similar, and I think I like the form the photos took in the end anyways.

Rather than showing every granular step of the process, the photos I chose to edit and keep tell the overall story of the morning once I decided to make a salad, and I like how it's sort of a minimal view of the process from start to finish. I could imagine it in some cooky old home-movie slideshow.

This isn't to say there's anything all that innovative or moving in these photos, but they left me feeling refreshed and far more creatively fulfilled, which is something I value a lot. They were a fun little thing to dash off in an hour or two before I head to work this afternoon, and the salad was quite tasty too.

There's not a real point to this post, so if I had to make a moral of the story it would be this:
Don't sleep in too long. If you do, make a salad.
Cheers,
~M

(Oh yeah, and this guy had some too.)
