Hello again all,
2015 is now well and truly gone - as of a day ago - and while this last week of winter vacation hasn't been entirely restful or productive for me, I'm glad to have another set of links to present you all with. They're not the most typical sorts of links that I've brought you in weeks past, but then again, that's probably a good thing.
Enjoy guys, and thanks again to all of you who take the time to read my work here on the site. It means the all world to me.
Looking Back to NaNoWrimo — The Brooks Review - Ben Brooks's NaNoWrimo blogging month of November was both fun and inspiring to read through. Ben wrote so many interesting articles that might not have come to light otherwise, and if I'm honest with you all I'm pretty jealous of just how much he got done. Putting that jealousy aside, this reflection from him looking at that month of writing is full of great advice on what helped him get into that rigorous writing routine. Needless to say I'll be trying some of it on for size, and I can only hope to do even a bit as well as Ben did at it. Give his piece a read - some of his advice is good in general, whether you're a writer or not.
Inside the Making of Serial Season Two - Vulture - Unless you've been living under a rock recently, you've likely heard that last year's hit podcast - Serial - is now back again for it's second season run. This piece from Vulture describing the details behind what led to this second season's Military-focused story is fascinating to me, and feeds more into my curiosity up to the podcast's return next week on the seventh.
Kendrick Lamar on the Grammys, Black Lives Matter and His Big 2015 - The New York Times - Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly was - among others - one of my favorite records from this past year. It's rare to hear an album with so much message, musical talent, and focus all in one place, and so reading about the success and influence that it has brought Kendrick was a worthwhile read for me. A general piece, but a good interview - I can't wait to hear whatever it is that Kendrick does next.
Two Cents 004: The Force Awakens - The Newsprint - Star Wars has been a prevalent theme in my life for the past couple weeks, and aside from my four viewings of The Force Awakens since launch night I've also enjoyed some odd podcasts and pieces of writing online talking all about the film. A lot of Josh Ginter's thoughts in this piece mirrored my own, and are definitely some of the best written things I've read so far. If you're a recently-renewed Star Wars nerd like myself, then Josh's thoughts are well worth your read.
Emmazed — iPhone 6s - The Daily Camera 03 - Mahmoud Mfinanga had a hell of a lineup for the year's end - with four new large pieces over the last four days of 2015. His Daily Camera series focusing and talking about mobile photography has always been a favorite of mine, and this new entry featuring the iPhone 6s Plus has more awesome imagery as always. Mahmoud really has shot some amazing work over the past year or two, and he's always a source of inspiration and drive for me. Another young artist finding success with their work - I can only continue to strive for similar goals.
Essential Iceland: Reykjavik - Life & Thyme - More of Life & Thyme's signature quality work, this time bringing us a beautiful photo tour & guide of the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik. Cozy photographs of restaurants and cafés, unique architecture, and the quality descriptions which weave it together and bring it to life. I've really enjoyed Life & Thyme's content over the past year, and this piece was the perfect cherry on top of 2015.
